Summer. The season where you ditch your trusty bondi sands for a more natural kind of tan, waste 90% of your life savings on cute bikinis that looked great on Gigi Hadid and will obviously look just as amazing on you, (well thats what I tell myself anyway, as I hand over my card to the sales assistant, fervently praying the inevitable ‘card declined’ will not occur in this moment and seriously questioning my decision to spend $18 on a glass of aperol the night before) and pull out your summer shade of foundation that’s been gathering dust the last few months, pushed haphazardly to the very back of the draw in lieu of shades appropriately named ‘sheer ivory’ and ‘mont blanc’. It’s also the time where I swap out the dark, autumnal berry-toned shades of eye shadow for lighter, golden colours that just happen to match perfectly to my perfect, deep, bronzed tan I’ve acquired after spending approximately 2 hours in the sun swathed in SPF 50+. I kid, I’m about as tan as my white bedsheets but hey, a girl can dream.
To create this look, I used my brand spanking new Too Faced semi sweet chocolate bar palette, which I purchased almost purely because it smelt like chocolate, on my eyes, applying the shades ‘peanut butter’ and ‘bon bon’ to the outer corners of my eyes before blending it with ‘coconut creme’ and ‘butter pecan’ in the centre of the lid with ‘caramel’ in the inner corners and lower lash line.
I then went in with my benefit ‘gimme brow’ gel, sparsely, on my eyebrows, aiming for a natural look drawing all the attention to the eyes.
For foundation, my new summer go-to is the Urban Decay all nighter foundation in shade 4.5. I’m seriously in love – it covers all lumps, bumps and imperfections and blesses my face with that perfect shade of tan it is seriously lacking in. I find as this foundation is so full coverage, I don’t need concealer.
To complement the gold of the eyes, I took the Becca highlighter in ‘Opal’, dusting it across my cheekbones and the bridge of my nose, before applying clinique bronzer just under the highlight and onto my forehead and my all time favourite Mecca Cosmetica creme highlighter to the browbone, cupid’s bow and tip of my nose.
I finish with running black eyeshadow from my Stila palette across my upper lash line instead of Mascara to really let the eye glow shine through, apply some Frank body lip balm, and I am feeling as radiant as the sun that burnt my back.
This is probably my go-to for summer makeup, with only one eye palette required, no contouring and no mascara, my face feels light and glowy. I’d love to know what your favourite summer makeup, or eye makeup in general is!
