Every year, in early March, the fashion folk of Melbourne congregate around a catwalk to view the upcoming collections of a plethora of talented, Australian designers. Ranging from cult classic labels (Gorman anyone?), to the relatively ambiguous up-and-comers, the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (VAMFF for short) is heaven on earth for those who feel Vogue feeds you more than your average dinner. I attended the closing night, runway 7, which featured designers including Elissa McGown, Emma Mulholland, Eugenie, Kingkang Chen, Pageant, and P.A.M. Totally edgy, the runway itself was in an underground, basement-level carpark that melded perfectly with the designer aesthetic. I wore one of my favourite Australian labels of the moment; Maurie and Eve, pairing this floaty fantasy of a dress with nude Tony Bianco pumps and an antique silver beaded Seed clutch for that perfect equilibrium of simplistic chic.
